"Arizona's ONLY Wild and Scenic River"
Discover Arizona's only Federally designated "Wild and Scenic" River- the Verde River. Carving a spectacular canyon painted by nature in multiple hues of golds, reds and browns, it drops at an average rate of 20 feet per mile. Cottonwoods, Sycamores and Sage grow from the banks, while the sandy beaches beckon you for breaks. Paddle an inflatable kayak or relax in a raft while you are submersed in wilderness fun. Often spotted wildlife includes javelina, black bears, golden eagles, great blue herons, otters, deer and incredible, varied bird life.
The well channeled Verde River allows us to operate inflatable kayak trips during the winter season when base flows keep a steady 150-200 cubic feet per second of water flow in the river. These flows offer lots of fun, class II and III white water thrills in the form of a twisting waterway full of chutes and drops interspersed with calm floating. No experience is needed to operate these free flowing and stable 1 person boats, also known as "duckies". Taking on the Verde river in an inflatable kayak, one on one, under the watchful eye of our instructor/guide is an adventurous and rewarding way to experience this beautiful Arizona wilderness waterway. During wet years we can experience high-water conditions during late February and March at which times we operate conventional rafting trips in 14 foot self bailing rafts. However, this water flow is not reliable and can be difficult to catch, making the inflatable kayak the optimal way to experience the magic of the Verde River Canyon.

Day 1:
Assemble at the Super 8 Motel in Camp Verde, Arizona. Meet your guides and load our shuttle vehicle for a short drive to Beasley Flats. Receive a thorough safety orientation and boating instructions. Load rafts and begin your descent into this spectacular desert canyon.
The morning brings the white water challenge of many chutes and rapids such as: "Off The Wall", "Pre-falls" and the exciting class IV to V (depending on water flows) "Verde Falls" (often requires portaging)! After the falls we float through the first highly restricted "Eagle Closure" where stopping is prohibited to protect the winter nesting grounds of the desert bald eagles. Next, we relax on a sandy beach and enjoy a delicious and filling deli style lunch. After lunch, challenge the rapids of "Bull Run", "Rock Garden", and "Punk Rock". Following, numerous unnamed white water chutes, interspersed with tranquil floating under the warm winter Arizona sun, fill the day.
By late afternoon we stop for camp with time for hiking and fishing or just relaxing with your favorite book. Camping with Mild to Wild is anything but roughing it- it is a 5 star event!
Day 2
After a delicious, hearty breakfast we hit the river for a day of Arizona white water rafting that includes the rapids of "Bushman", "White Flash", "Black Hole", and "Child's Play". The day includes a stop for a pristine, relaxing, invigorating soak in a natural, riverside hot spring. Exploring the spectacular side canyons of Powel Creek or Sleepy Hollow are also a highlight.
The Verde river keeps us moving swiftly with an average gradient of 22 feet per mile as we travel into more remote country. At Child's we sadly say goodbye to our two-day trip companions knowing what they are going to miss out on, just before making camp for another evening of delicious food, games and relaxation.
Day 3:
More white water rapids and swift floating as the gradient continues at 20 feet per mile. Don't let "Baby Snaggletooth" and "Nasty Little Dog Leg" get you as they provide some of the days excitement. We enter the Mazatal Wilderness. Another highlight is a hike and exploration up the amazing East Verde River Canyon.
Camping again is on a sandy beach or a grass bench. Keep your eyes peeled for the numerous javelinas (wild pigs) that inhabit the area. Our multitalented guides cater to you and pull out all stops on our pampering of you.
Day 4:
Continued swift current moves through the magnificent corridor with soaring canyon walls and lush riverside growth. "Red Wall" and "Hell of Hess" rapids provide white water challenge and excitement. Inflatable kayak participants will be masters of their craft by this day and are often spending as much time "surfing" the white water rapids, as running them. As time permits, the light and maneuverable inflatable kayaks allow you the opportunity to rerun rapids to maximize the white water fun!
At camp, let us cater to you while you relax under the stars and prepare for your last day of escape and your departure back to the real world!
Day 5:
Where has the time-gone? Day five in this wilderness paradise is as exciting as day 1 as we challenge "Red Creek" Rapid, "Wet As" Rapid and "Honey Chute". "Sheep Bridge", the end of our wilderness odyssey, is reached around 2:00pm, but not before one last soak in another natural riverside hot spring (to fully prepare you for the shock of the return to the real world!).
Leaving this amazing wilderness you will feel renewed and invigorated as you take with you new skills, friends and enduring memories of this magnificent and wild place. Load our shuttle and return to Camp Verde and your car around 5:00pm-6:00pm.
